Lapel Chair

Furniture and apparel work on two separate stylistic levels. They both look to past styling within their own genres to push their aesthetics forward. By merging the styling of clothing into the structures of furnishing I hope to create a unique look that would bring inspiration from both. Ultimately, I planed to answer the question how can apparel fashion be united with home furnishing?

Through the mating of a lounge chair and men's formal wear the piece was born. From its maternal furnishing roots I pulled inspiration from the minimalist styling of the 1940's and 1950's modern furniture. The wings along the backrest and tailored fit to the body come from its parental side, fashion. This tailoring mirrors the lapel and slim fit of a modern men's blazer. It was designed with dynamic angles and accelerating curves to set the chair in motion as one seamless pieces. A continuous back rest, rear leg and seat are used to simplify the overall gesture. As an ergonomic benefit, the back rest contours the body and curves around the lumbar. The seat dips in the back and has a waterfall front edge to reduce pressure on the legs.

Lamp3

The goal of this project was to design an MP3 player for the home.

This became a two part project for me. The design began as the development of an MP3 player. After coming to a result I was satisfied with, I found an opportunity for advancement. This design suggested to me that it should be merged with another functional hanging product that would pull electricity from the ceiling. From here the merger between this product and a pendant lamp began. The final result was a clean design that fits into the young tech-savy home.

Mixing Ball

The aim of this project was to create a proactive product that would somehow have a positive impact on the lifestyle choices of the user.

To solve this problem, I looked to find a way to facilitate the interaction between adults and children. In doing this I observed the interaction between adults and children; looking for opportunities to join their separate actives. The areas I chose to focus on were cooking, for adults, and active play, for children. By flipping the activity and person performing it, I found that children have troubles stirring because of both the lack of strength and fine motor skills. During active play with children, adults preferred simpler acts , like playing with toy cars. In looking at the problems that separated the two groups, I attempted to join the natural strengths and activities of both, while combining activities that should be done in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

GPS flashlight

In the project, a merger between a handheld flashlight and GPS system was to be designed.

I used the GPS system as the driving factor of the design. By using influences from cell phones and other handheld devices I settled on a simple organic form. The flashlight portion was added to the side of the product and uses multiple LED bulbs to allow the product to retain its slender profile.
